History of a Wall, circa 21st C.

There is something profound, fascinating

in neglected, aging walls

I am drawn to the chips and cracks,

fading and multiple coats of paint,

mildew and dirt because I feel the urgency

of cities and settlements

to be new and shiny, untouched in their glamour

I am drawn to walls that peak from behind the veil

of architectural and engineered perfection

to suggest a history of people, events, and weather

time layered in one moment;

a narrative emerges from these mundane surfaces
